Kate Schottman, DVM
Dr Kate Schottman wanted to become a veterinarian since she was 5 and first began working in veterinary hospitals at age 14. After high school, she worked full time for a year as a ward attendant and then nurse trainee at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. Between college and vet school, she worked as a veterinary assistant and research technician. During her last year of veterinary school, Dr Schottman became certified in veterinary acupuncture. She graduated from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992 and has lived in Renton since 1993. Dr Schottman worked at veterinary hospitals in Issaquah, Seattle, and Renton before purchasing Sunset Pet Hospital in January 2001. Under her direction, Sunset Pet Hospital became one of the few hospitals in the area accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr Schottman is a member of the national, state, and local veterinary medical associations and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Dr Schottman's medical interests include caring for senior pets, optimal wellness care, feline medicine, nutrition, dentistry, caring for pets with chronic illnesses, acupuncture, pain control, and comfort care. Her thoroughness, compassion, and desire to continually build her knowledge so as to offer the very best care are reflected in Sunset Pet Hospital's mission and daily operations.
Dr Schottman's pets are her children and are the focus of her free time. She enjoys agility training and competition with her Labrador Retrievers, as well as walking in the woods, reading, and getting away to the mountains or the beach. She also has cats who are pampered and catered to, as cats deserve.
